About the book
Ways of Seeing was published in 1972 alongside a BBC TV series. John Berger's main theme is that images carry the assumptions of whoever made them and whoever owns them. The book consists of seven chapters: four are essays, three simply contain an array of images within a theme. This structure asks you to look first, think second.
About this site
This book caught my attention due to not only how interactive it is, but its very subjective nature. Berger constantly asks you to compare images and to notice what's different.
Disclaimer: Berger states many things as fact, although they are simply his interpretations, many being outdated in nature.
This translation draws inspiration from the book's focus on paintings, which led to my choice of museum-themed styling. Content in all four exhibits are curated to reflect the four subthemes in the text and are simply condensed and paraphrased from the original.
